Golf Equipment and use on golf course
A Basic set of golf clubs: When you're starting out in golf you don't need a set of 15 clubs to haul around. A basic set of clubs will be fine ,consisting of: - a Driver
- a 5 iron
- a 7 iron
- a pitching wedge
- and a putter
These sets can often be purchased second hand (Find golf clubs, equipment and accessories on Ebay or Amazon ) or new beginners sets can be found at online golf stores (118golf,CG Golf,Golfonline,Online Golf,Scottsdale Golf,The Sports HQ,SportsDirect ,GolfBalls.co.uk),and golf shops.Often you will receive helpful free advise using a shop. Some High St stores will also sell golf clubs and equipment e.g. Argos.
About the golf clubs: This table GIVES A ROUGH GUIDE as to how far a pro would hit with each club and what a beiginner would likely hit with them: Club Distance hit by pro (yds) Distance hit by beginner (yds) (try to hit this after a few months at the range) These are just averages and may not be right on every shot.If you have just got some clubs and are going to your local driving range why don't you try and hit different distances.DON,T WORRY IF YOU CANT HIT FAR JUST ENJOY! Using the clubs On the course :As a beginner you will probably start at a 9 hole course which will have mainly par 3 and a few par 4 holes so club selection will be critical over varied distances. If you can write your own distance chart of what you hit with your clubs and carry it with you on the course then it will give you a rough idea in your club selection.Club choice will come with experience as you play and improve. Extra Equipment:This kit is not essential but it can make life easier on the golf course or improve your game. A Trolley To help carry your golf clubs you might want a golf trolley. You can buy a golf trolley for £10 in some places which is a great price. A good trolley with lots of accessories such as golf ball holders, scorecard and pencil holders and drinks holders could cost between £25-£50. Some trolleys are electric or remote controlled and can cost hundreds of pounds. A Golf Glove To help improve on grip you can get a golf glove. If you are right handed you buy a left handed one and if you are left handed you buy a right handed one. You wear it on your left hand (as a right handed golfer) because the left hand is mostly holding the club with the right hand as a guide.Cost £5-£25 A Towel These are used to clean golf clubs as when you take a divot of grass and mud from the ground lots of mud stays in the grooves (lines indented purpously on a golf clubs head to make the ball bounce and go further). Which will stop its the ball from 'dancing' and a clump of mud could hit the ball in a different direction. Tees They come in packs of 9,10,12,24,36,50,100,200(may vary).Taller tees are used for shots with a driver and others according to the size of the club. You can get wooden, plastic, bristle tees and crown top tees. Be careful though, often a tee shot is messed up because of the height position of the ball. The Hybrid Often a club not recommended to be used by beginners, it is used to hit further than a three iron but not as far as a five wood. It has a club head like a wood but smaller and is often used for tee shot and fairway shots. However you can use it in rough, chip shots and bunker shots but it is not always wise to do so unless you are experienced. Sometimes it is called a utility or a rescue club. This page illustrates some common equipment used for golf, start with the basic and add equipement as needed for the game.
